I, the individual human organism, realize that I am an integral part of a larger living organism, the community, made up of other organisms such as myself. I realize that what I do effects another or others in this community, and conversely, am affected by what others do as well. My value is not to me alone but to the community as a whole. I confess that I need others and am needed by others of this community. I am responsible to another or others, and therefore, to the community, to seek and ensure its betterment, well-being, and viability, because, in so doing, I ensure these things for myself.
We are valuable, but intrinsic to that value, is what we do for others, and community as a whole. We, as beings, are inseparable from community. We need community to thrive and we comprise community. There is no I without We. The I thrives only if the We thrives. Our value is defined by God.
Our concept of ministry is expressed in the parable of the Good Samaritan - see Luke 10: 25-37. Ministry is need driven. It is birthed in response to need.
