I, the individual human organism, realize that I am an integral part of a larger living organism, the community, made up of other organisms such as myself. I realize that what I do affects another or others in this community, and conversely, I am affected by what others do as well. My value is not to me alone but to the community as a whole. I confess that I need others and am needed by others of this community. I am responsible to another or others, and therefore, to the community, to seek and ensure its betterment, well-being, and viability, because, in so doing, I ensure these things for myself.
